Do you have a hard time getting your kids to read in the summer time? I do too. I’ve had to add it to their list of “daily chores” just to get them to read. But I don’t want them to think of reading as a chore. That’s why I’m so excited to have heard about the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. This will definitely get my kids excited to do more reading the remaining days of summer and beyond.
The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is so easy and fun for kids. My kids love to be challenged. That’s how I get them to do almost anything I want them to do. “Let’s see who can get their bed made first!”, “Let’s see who can eat their food first!” It’s all a sneaky way to get my kids excited about something. This Summer Reading Challenge is a fun way to get the kids reading. They can head over to the scholastic Summer Reading Challenge Website and log their minutes read. Then they can unlock all sorts of fun badges.
I love to order books for my kids through the Scholastic Book Orders that come home from their classrooms during the school year. I love to support my child’s teacher. But did you know you can buy books from Scholastic all year round? And if you haven’t noticed, they are the best prices you’ll find, anywhere!
Scholastic sent me the cutest “Be a Reading Superhero” kit the other day. My boys were so excited to open it and read all the fun “Super” books that were included. It came with a cape and a frisbee that the boys thought was the best, and a reading chart so they can track their reading. Stickers, book marks, and a fun light up key chain were also included.
And guess what? You can WIN your own “Be a Reading Super Hero” kit for your family too! I’ll tell you how to enter in just a minute.
The cute books that were included in this “Super” kit are:
These heroic insects are ready to fly in and lend a helping hand or wing! The Super Bugs spend all day doing good, and when the day ends…Â “To the hideout — cozy nest. Even heroes need to rest.”
SUPER RAWR is a dinosaur who can jump over tall buildings (blocks) and save the day! Preschool, pre-K, and kindergarten children will RAWR with laughter, and career day will never be the same. In the end, RAWR likes just being himself — at least until he goes to sleep and dreams of being an astronaut.
As the three-time winner of the Ultimate Comic Book Trivia Championship of Knowledge, Nate Banks has always been the sixth grade’s biggest comic book expert. But when a mysterious new superhero shows up in town, not even Nate knows who she really is. And when he sets out to discover Ultraviolet’s secret identity, all of the clues seem to lead Nate to the least likely suspect: his uptight history teacher, Ms. Matthews! Could she really be moonlighting as a super-powered crime fighter? It’s up to Nate to find out!
Rachel and Kirsty are thrilled when their fairy friends whisk them away to the Fairyland Music Festival! But the festival is one big mess, because Jack Frost has stolen the Superstar Fairies’ magic music notes. He’s determined to be the biggest superstar in the world, and the girls are determined to stop him!
Fly Guy loves the school lunchroom. He loves the dirty dishes, the smelly mop, and the garbage cans. But when the lunch ladies discover there’s a fly in the cafeteria, chaos ensues! Though Fly Guy makes a mess of things, he also shows his powers as a Super Fly Guy!
Now, don’t those sound like some books your kids would love to read? My kids are having a blast reading their new books. There’s just something about a new book to fan the flame of reading love!
