How to Pack Jewelry // No More Tangled Mess

How to Pack Jewelry

Summer is here and that means a lot of fun family vacations and small get-away’s! Today I’m sharing with you my favorite way to pack jewelry for a trip so it all doesn’t end up in a tangled mess!

How to Pack Jewelry

Packing for a family of 7 can be a real challenge, especially when we will be gone for 7 days. You have to get really creative so you can fit everything inside the back of the van. Especially since my husband always has to bring his paragliding wing with him everywhere. That thing is HUGE. We have tried all sorts of different ways to pack. Everyone in one large suitcase (which worked when the kids were really little), each person packs their stuff in their own back pack, the girls in one suitcase and the boys in the other, etc. We still haven’t found the perfect packing method yet, but I think I have mastered the jewelry packing part.

How to Pack Jewelry

Don’t you hate it when you go to get your necklace or bracelet and they are all tangled up in a big ball of gold and silver? You have an extra half an hour to untangle that don’t you? Of course you don’t. You are busy. Especially if you are on a business trip, the last thing you need is this mess.

When my girls were small, we also used this technique for all their hair accessories. You know those girls need bows, elastics, headbands, and bobby pins. You can’t go outside without a bow! If you want to make a hair box, just use thinner ribbon so the clips can close over the ribbon.

Today I’m helping make your life just a little bit easier when you travel. I hope this idea helps you stay just a little bit more sane while traveling.

Travel Jewelry Box

  • A plastic organization box, any size. (This one I’m using I found at JoAnn’s. It’s a 4×6 hinged photo box.)
  • 1/4 yard grosgrain ribbon (mine is 3″ wide)
  • Hot glue or craft glue like E6000
  • Lighter
  • Snack size zip top bags

Using the lighter, carefully burn the cut ends of the ribbon to keep it from fraying. Glue one end of the ribbon to the underside of the lid on the box. Let the glue dry (or cool) completely.

Now use the ribbon to poke your earrings through.

Using the zip top bags, store each necklace with any matching rings. Store the bracelets separately so they don’t tangle with the necklaces but put all matching jewelry in the same bag so they stay all together.

You’re done! So easy, right?

I love the size of this jewelry box because it fits nicely in any suitcase pocket. I really love the hard box too because it keeps my jewelry from getting smashed in a tightly packed suitcase.

What is your one piece of jewelry you can’t live without?

You don’t want to arrive in Hawaii and have a bunch of winter clothes and no swimming suits packed! I usually make a checklist of things they need to pack so they can feel like they are independent, but I have them lay everything out on their beds and go and make sure they made good choices before they pack their bags.
