“This year I’ve partnered with Spirit Halloween to bring you some fun costume ideas for kids. Spirit Halloween has provided me with a few of the products shown in these pictures. All opinions are my own.”
The big day is creeping closer and closer, and you’re still figuring out your family’s costumes for trick or treating. Fortunately thanks to Spirit Halloween, we have a multitude of last-minute options to make sure you arrive at that Halloween party, or your child trick-or-treats, appropriately attired and equipped.
What does your family do for Halloween? Do you go as a group theme? Do your kids like to do their own thing? Do you like to dress like a character, or do you like to be something dark and scary? Well, whatever you plan on being this Halloween, Spirit Halloween has you covered. For real. I could not believe the amount of divers costumes they had in their store. You could literally find any costume you wanted in their store or online. We went together as a family and picked out the things the kids wanted to be. My kids really like to just do their own thing. We don’t ever dress as a group for Halloween. Mostly because I know my husband would never dress up for Halloween. He’s a real stick in the mud about this Holiday.
So we spent at least an hour in the store because there was so much to look at and choose from. I love the fact that we were all DONE with one shopping trip because they had everything I needed.
One of my daughters saw the red flowers headband from the “Spirit Halloween Mystery Box” that they sent me and she thought it would be fun to dress as a “Day of the Dead” skeleton. So we had fun painting her face. And this is what we learned as we went along.
MAKE SURE THE WHITE PAINT IS DRY BEFORE PUTTING ON ANOTHER COAT OF WHITE AND TRYING TO USE BLACK. Ha ha! Can you tell we were a little frustrated? I’m a really impatient person I guess and I just couldn’t wait for the white base to dry before I moved on. So learn from my mistakes.
How to Paint a Day of the Dead Face:
- Using a makeup sponge that comes in the kit, dab on the white face paint. Do not go back over a spot until it has dried completely or you will make the paint come off.
- Do a few coats of the white make up dabbing as you go, making sure to let each coat dry completely before applying another coat
- Once the white paint is dry, get out your black pencil.
- Outline the circles around the eyes
- Outline the black triangles on each side of the nose
- Outline the lips and draw the lines from the corners of the mouth and add stitches to the lines
- Make a scalloped edge all the way around the eye circles
- Make decorative swirls coming from the eyes
- Using the black cream make up and the applicator, fill in the eyes, nose triangles, and the lips
It was actually quite easy once I got the white makeup dry.

I’m sorry but Dia De Los Muertos is not a costume idea , it is a cultural celebration and should not be made scary, we dress this way to make our ancestors feel welcome as they come back to visit family it should not be a costume idea.
