On Tuesday Morning we RAN to Wal-Mart and purchased Big Hero 6. We couldn’t wait for it to come out on DVD. It is for sure in our top 5 favorite Disney movies of all time. Baymax is my favorite character that Disney animators have created and I’m so in love with him. You need to head to Wal-Mart and purchase the Big Hero 6 Blu-Ray/DVD + Gift With Purchase Set . It includes a digital movie on Vudu while supplies last! Simply scan your receipt using the Savings Catcher in the Walmart app. Then look for a message on your phone or email. Now you can watch Big Hero 6 on any device!
I wanted to make Tuesday night special for my kids while we watched Big Hero 6 so I whipped up a special Wasabi Chex mix (in honor of another one of our favorite characters, Wasabi) and we used shaving cream paint Baymax as an activity before the viewing. The Saturday before the movie came out I went online to WalMart.com and ordered some of the Big Hero 6 toys for my little one. He loves Baymax too and so I knew he would love this Mask and Rocket Fist. I also got the cute little stuffed Baymax and Gogo Tamago. The Rocket fist actually flies off. It’s made of soft foam so it doesn’t hurt. And it’s so easy for my 4 year old to use because there is a hidden trigger, just like shooting a gun.
He was slightly excited when he saw what I got. Can you tell by looking at his face! Ha ha!
Tuesday afternoon we started off by making the snack mix. We wanted to let it cook while we did our art project. Here is the recipe for this awesome Wasabi Chex Mix.
Wasabi Chex Mix
- 6 cups corn Chex cereal
- 2 cups rice crackers, broken
- 2 cups Gardetto’s Rosted Garlic Rye Chips broken into fourths
- 1 cup wasabi peas
- 1⁄2 cup sunflower seeds kernels
- Dried Seaweek Snack (optional)
Seasoning Mixture
- 1⁄4 cup butter
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1⁄4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1⁄8 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons wasabi powder
- cooking spray
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Line a jelly roll pan with foil. Spray with cooking spray.
In large bowl add chex cereal, rice crackers, rye chips, wasabi peas, & sunflower kernels. Set aside.
Melt butter in small bowl in the microwave. Stir in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, ginger, wasabi powder, & sugar. Mix well.
Pour over snack mix. Stir gently until all ingredients are well coated with the butter mixture.
Pour onto prepared pan. Gently spread into an even layer.
Place in oven. Cook 45 minutes or until mixture is crisp. Stir every 15 minutes. Once cool, break up the seaweed and add to the chex mix. Stir and you’re done!
While the Wasabi Chex Mix was baking, we made our Puffy Paint Baymax. You can download the printable HERE.
Baymax Puffy Paint Art Project
- One can cheap shaving cream
- Elmers Glue
- Plastic Zip Lock Bag
- Something for stirring and spreading (we used a straw)
- Scissors
- Black paint and a thin paint brush or a Black Sharpie
On a paper plate, squirt out some shaving cream. Pour an equal amount of glue on top of the shaving cream and stir. Don’t stir too much or the puffy paint will lose its puffiness. Pour into a zip lock bag (we use a cup to make this easier, see picture below).
Cut a corner off the bottom of the bag and use the bag like a pastry bag to “pipe” it on the paper.
Use a straw or stick to spread the puffy paint and try to make it smooth.
Let it dry overnight, then use paint or a sharpie to CAREFULLY draw his eyes and arm and leg lines.
Bring Baymax home today and have a fun night making these things with your kids.
