I love to spend time in my kitchen with my kids. And these Red Velvet Waffles on a Stick were so much fun to make with my son. I love trying new recipes. Especially with the help of my kids. I strongly believe that kids need to learn how to cook and bake. I want them to be responsible adults and make healthy meals and yummy treats. Especially my son’s. Who doesn’t want a husband that can cook and bake? When my kids are young, I like having them make fun and creative things to keep them interested and wanting to learn more. That’s why I’m so happy to have found these creative Holstein Housewares Novelty Electrics. They are so much more fun and different than any other electrics I’ve seen out there. For this blog post we were sent the fun Heart Waffle on a Stick iron. It’s my favorite color too, purple.
Pinterest has us worrying all the time if our creations are good enough, cute enough or trendy enough. I always say, when I spend time on Pinterest, I feel fat, skinny, hungry, full, in shape, out of shape, jealous, content and crazy all at the same time! Ha Ha! But if you really want to impress and make it easy on yourself, Holstein Housewares products will help you accomplish that goal. The Holstein Housewares brand is dedicated to making family-friendly fun and functional small kitchen appliances. These fun treat makers save you time in the kitchen! No Preheating your oven anymore in the hot summer months. Treats are done in just 7 minutes!
Sunday’s are usually our baking days. We have lots of time before and after church to make some goodies. This is when we like experimenting with new recipes. We made these Red Velvet Waffles on a Stick for breakfast. My 9 year old son, who is a self proclaimed baker, woke up early to help me out. He really is a great baker, I have some Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies coming up on the blog soon that he made from start to finish all on his own. He helped me get out all the ingredients and we got started.
Red Velvet Waffles on a Stick From Scratch. Makes about 18 waffles.
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup water or coffee
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- Popsicle sticks
In a medium sized bowl, stir together the first 5 ingredients and set aside (the salt, baking soda, baking powder, flour and cocoa powder). In a mixing bowl whisk together the sugar, oil, milk, water or coffee, vinegar, egg, vanilla and red food coloring until well combined. Slowly whisk in the dry ingredients until well blended. Plug in the Holstein Heart Waffle Maker and wait for the green light to turn on.
Open the waffle maker and spray well with non stick spray. Pour a little less than 1/4 cup of batter into each heart. Add a popsicle stick and make sure there is batter over the top of the stick too. Otherwise the stick will fall right out.
Close the lid and let cook for 5-7 minutes. Don’t rely on the lights on the cooker. As a rule of thumb, I wait until I don’t see steam rising up from the sides of the cooker before I lift up the lid.
The popsicle sticks make it really easy to remove the waffles from the maker. If you are cooking with kids, MAKE SURE you are right there to supervise so no one gets burned. Let the waffles cool a minute then enjoy with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
I think he might like them just a little. How fun that they are on a stick?
Each Holstein Housewares treat maker comes with a manual including 8-10 recipes that you can make with your treat maker and tips on how it can be used. This recipe was adapted from the book that came with my treat maker. If you have a favorite batter mix, you can use that in your treat maker too! I think Holstein Housewares treat makers are great for creating treats for birthday parties, wedding celebrations, or other special get-togethers.
I think I’ll be waking up my little ones with heart shaped waffles on Valentine’s Day morning.
