My 9 year old son really loves to cook and bake. He is always asking me if he can try making something new. These Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies are yummy and easy for kids to help make. He made them all on his own (with adult supervision).
Cooking and baking with kids is so much fun. It’s a great bonding time with parents and kids. I try to find recipes that the kids can do almost all on their own so they really feel accomplished. These cookies are easy for kids to help make and taste great. Perfect for the lunch box. And how fun would it be for your kids to tell all their friends that they made these on their own!
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
- 3/4 cup softened butter
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 cups uncooked oatmeal
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 cups chocolate chips
Beat together the butter, sugars, egg, water and vanilla until creamy. Combine the remaining ingredients then add to the first mixture. Mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Makes about 30 cookies. I made mine 2 tablespoon sized with a cookie scooper so they were bigger.
Enjoy spending time in the kitchen with your kids.

Just made these with my son – We were wondering, how many chocolate chips are we supposed to put in? We used an entire (small package) what do you recommend?

Sara, Thanks for pointing that out! I’ve added the measurements for the chocolate chips. 2 cups or one small bag. Thanks~!
