Microwave French Toast in a Mug

01/09/15 | Breakfast, Recipes

You’ve heard of cake in a mug and brownies in a mug, but today I’m going to teach you how to make breakfast in a mug. This microwave French Toast in a Mug is so easy to make. My kids make this on a regular basis during those busy school mornings.

Microwave French Toast in a Mug

Microwave French Toast in a Mug

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a large mug, melt the butter in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Roll the butter around in the cup to coat it. In the mug whisk the egg with a fork until well blended. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the egg and add the vanilla then stir again. Cut or tear the bread into bite size pieces and add to the egg mixture in the mug, pressing the bread down in to the egg. Let the mixture sit for a minute so the bread will soak up the egg. Microwave on high for 30 seconds at a time until the egg is cooked through. It usually takes about 90 seconds total. Enjoy with the syrup of your choice right out of the mug or you can plop it onto a plate and cut it up.

Is there any substitute of egg? In french toast, for vegetarians.

Vegetarians can eat eggs and lots of bread has a milk product or egg. However a vegan will not eat eggs or milk or any other animal product. 😉

Tried it and it needed more egg. Easy fix though — just whipped up another. Does anyone know if it’s better to poor the egg on top?

I cut up the bread pieces first, mixed egg mixture in small bowl and poured on top. Then pressed. It soaked better.

Yum! I just made this. I cubed up the bread added it to beaten egg in separate bowl mixed well. Poured the melted butter over it stirred well. Cooked 45 seconds stirred in a few blueberries and drizzled with maple syrup. So easy and yummy! Will definitely make again! Thanks for the recipe 😊

Good idea. But I can’t imagine French toast without a splash of milk and a spoon of sugar in the egg mix. I’ll be trying this but with my regular French toast mix..egg, milk, cinn, vanilla, sugar, tiniest pinch of salt.
