Having 5 kids I know sometimes certain kids get more attention than others, depending on what’s going on in their lives. So I really like making sure each child knows how much they are loved and appreciated especially on their birthdays. Here are 5 traditions we do with our kids on their birthdays to help them feel loved and special.
1. Breakfast in Bed. My kids love having breakfast in bed on their birthdays. I let them choose what every kind of food they want for their breakfast in bed. Usually they choose waffles, pancakes or Toaster Strudels. We all go in as a family to wake them up singing Happy Birthday. There is always a candle for them to blow out too 🙂
2. Tin Foil Presents. This is a tradition we adopted from one of my good friends. She gets little treats and toys for the kids to open in the morning that are all wrapped in Tin Foil. So fun! These little gifts are meant to hold them over until they get their “real” gifts later at their birthday party.
3. Decorate your Car. Even though my kids say it’s embarrasing, I use window markers to decorate my car windows with my kids names. That way when I drop them off at school, everyone can see that it’s their birthday!  I don’t have a picture of my car painted up, but here is an example.
4. Throw a party. This sounds like a no brainer, but our parties are a little special. We invite our family. We are lucky enough to live close to our families and I think it’s really special to have my kids grandparents there for their parties.
We also make sure to make the party special by putting up decorations and choosing a theme. This was a fun Mickey Mouse Party we threw when my littlest turned 2.
We also choose special birthday #KidsCards for the party. This year we found these really fun Poster Cards by Hallmark at Wal-Mart. I love being able to grab everything I need for parties while I’m grocery shopping at Wal-Mart.
These cards are so cool! They open up and turn into posters the kids can put on their wall. So fun!
He decided to put it on his bedroom door. So cute!
You can get these cool Hallmark poster cards at Walmart. Did you know that Hallmark has a Card Rewards Program?  You can earn rewards for the Hallmark cards you buy at Walmart.  For every 5 cards you buy, you’ll earn a reward.
5. Take them out for a family dinner, or let them choose their favorite home cooked dinner. My kids really look forward to their birthdays because they know that they get to choose the restaurant we eat at on their birthday. I just know that it can get really expensive, so if you don’t want the added expense, ask them what their favorite home cooked meal is and make that. Of course end the day with a cake and candles to blow out. There are just a few of the things we do for our kids birthdays.
