Mormonism: A Christ-Centered Faith

09/09/14 | Religion

As many of you know, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I’ve heard a lot of silly things in my life from friends and strangers that don’t truly know anything about our religion.

Questions like:

Do you have horns or tails? (NO)

Why can’t you eat chocolate? (We eat a lot of chocolate and a lot of Diet Coke)

Why don’t you believe in Jesus Christ? (WE DO believe in Jesus Christ, he is the center of our church, our savior. We love him. We also believe in God our Eternal Father and the Holy Ghost)

Why don’t you believe in the Bible? (We do study the bible. We know all the bible stories. In fact we are studying the Old Testament in Sunday School this year. We have a rotating curriculum that EVERY church in the world follows. This is awesome because no matter where you are in the world, you can go to a Mormon church and pick up right where you left off at your own church.)

Isn’t Mormon your God? (No. Mormon was a prophet who lived in Ancient America. He saved the Golden Plates with the words from the Book of Mormon on them. The Golden Plates are the plates that Joseph Smith found and translated. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ with writings from ancient prophets. The Book of Mormon also contains writings about Jesus visiting and teaching the inhabitants in the America’s after he was resurrected. It’s called the Book of Mormon because Mormon compiled the book, and buried it for safe keeping for a later date. Joseph Smith is also not a god. He was a prophet just like Moses, Abraham and Mormon.)

These all seem like silly questions, but there really are people out there that truly have no idea what our church believes.

Let me answer a few simple questions about my faith. Then if you have any more HONEST questions that are not confrontational, I’d be happy to answer them in the comment section of this post.
