“I wrote this review while participating in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Twinkies. I received samples and a promotional item to thank me for participating.”
There’s just something about Twinkies that reminds me of my childhood. We didn’t get to have Twinkies very often growing up, but when we did, it was the best treat ever! The yummy yellow sponge cake with an awesome whipped cream filling. Mmmmm! I thought it would be fun to try to create a new recipe and submit it to be in the new The Twinkies Cookbook that Hostess is coming out with soon. I call it Frozen Twinkies and Ice Cream Sandwich Cake. Sounds like a little piece of heaven, huh?
One of my friends has kids with summer birthdays. She always makes an ice cream sandwich cake for them and I’ve always thought it was a brilliant idea. So when I was thinking of a recipe to use Twinkies in, it was a hot summer day, and I instantly thought about her ice cream sandwich cake. So, the Frozen Twinkies and Ice Cream Sandwich Cake was born. It couldn’t be more simple too. We love simple, don’t we? Do you have a great recipe that incorporates Twinkies? You should head over and submit it on the Hostess Web Site.
Here is what you’ll need. Only 3 ingredients!
- 10 Twinkies
- 10 Ice Cream Sandwiches
- 1 Large Tub Whipped Topping
Start by unwrapping the Twinkies. Then cut them in half horizontally, tops from bottoms.
Line a 9″ square baking dish with tin foil.
Place the tops of the Twinkies (top side down) in the pan to evenly to cover bottom.
Spread half of the whipped topping over Twinkies to fill in the cracks and cover Twinkies.
Now unwrap the ice cream sandwiches and place them evenly over the top of the whipped topping, cutting to fit one row.
Now place the remaining bottoms of the Twinkies, cut side down, on top of the ice cream sandwiches.
Top with the remaining Whipped Topping and smooth out.
Freeze for at least an hour before serving. When ready to serve, pull the cake out of the pan by pulling on the tin foil. Pull away the tin foil and cut the cake with a sharp knife.
Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Wow, that is a beautiful cake 🙂 Also looks delicious. I’m going to try it out for my sister’s birthday, but is it possible to place strawberries in between the layers of the Twinkies/ice cream sandwiches? Also, can we use frosting to cover the cake up? My sister would prefer frosting, not whipped topping – but if it isn’t possible to do so, then I would have to choose whipped topping.
