Well, it makes me sick to my stomach to say this, but the Summer is winding down and school will be starting soon. Every year this happens to me. I realize that all we did was sit around all summer doing nothing. Then at the end of the summer, I feel guilty and we try to cram in a whole bunch of activities all at once. Where does the time go?
I decided this year to make a “Back to School Bucket List” so we could do the things I was meaning to do all summer long. I thought maybe you’d like to use it for your family too, if you’re a little like me 🙂
There are two printables to choose from. One with more of a chalkboard look with black and red, and one a more bright summery ocean blue. I made the black and red one and then I felt depressed that school was starting, so I had to make a more cheerful looking one. You can choose which one you want to download for yourself. But I like the brighter one, just sayin’.
Now, let’s talk about what’s on this list, shall we?
Most are self explanatory. But let me just explain a few.
-Volunteer Together. Why do I like to volunteer with my kids? I really try to instill a sense of community in my children. We jump at opportunities to volunteer in our community. Most of those opportunities come to use through our church. Helping people move in our out, cleaning the church, doing service projects for church members who can’t do it themselves, babysitting for families who need extra help etc. But there are opportunities all around you. Head over to VolunteerMatch.com and find places in your community where you can volunteer with your children. I promise, even if they complain about doing it, they will thank you for those experiences when they are older.
-Go Bird Watching. This is something my kids love. They love nature and animals. I will be driving them up a nearby canyon and we will be looking for local birds. Go to MyBirdz.org and click on your state to find out what birds are in your area. Google the name of the bird and make a scavenger hunt paper for the kids to use to identify the birds by copy and pasting the pictures of the birds in a word document. Be sure to include the name of the bird. Then get out your binoculars and head out for a fun, relaxing day.
-Interview the kids. I love interviewing my kids before the school year and at the end of the school year to compare their answers. The same interview always brings different answers at the beginning and end of the school year. It’s fun to watch how much they’ve grown and matured over the school year. Here is a fun free printable interviews you can use. Maybe even do it as a video interview!
-Breakfast date. This is a fun tradition we do with our kids the day before school starts. We take them out to breakfast. Usually to IHop where they get their traditional chocolate smiley face pancake and hot chocolate. This could also just be done at home with a special breakfast if you can’t afford to take the family out.
-Eat Popsicle’s outside. (I spelled Popsicle wrong on the bucket list, but it’s spelled right on the download) My kids love popsicles. They eat a ton of them every summer. I love them too, because in order to eat the popsicle, they have to go outside. Then I get a little peace and quiet for a little while. We love trying new popsicles throughout the summer. But our all time favorite this summer was the new Starburst Brand Sorbet Bars.
YOU GUYS! These taste just like Starbursts!!! They are so good and creamy! When they were gone, they asked me to go buy more. Every time we go to the store, they ask me to buy them over all the other frozen treats at the store. That’s a big deal, because they really love the ice cream cones.
The bars are the perfect size to satisfy the kids. STARBURSTâ„¢ Brand Sorbet Bars gives you the taste of a STARBURSTâ„¢ strawberry fruit chew in a sorbet bar with only 70 delicious calories. 70 calories!! Available in 2.6-ounce 4-Packs for $3.99 and 2.6-ounce singles for $1.49 each, STARBURSTâ„¢ Brand Sorbet Bars are a crowd-pleasing favorite.
Multi-packs of the STARBURSTâ„¢ Brand Sorbet Bars are available in the refrigerated ice cream case at Wal-Mart and select grocery stores nationwide.  The new STARBURSTâ„¢ Brand Sorbet Bars rounds out Mars’ popular ice cream portfolio, which also includes DOVEBAR®, TWIX® and SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars. Head over and follow and “like” Starburst on Facebook and Twitter.
Now how do you download the bucket lists? Click on the image of the one you want to download and it will take you to the download page. Simple!

I always loved getting new notepads, pens, and other office supplies. I still love to do that, even though I am not in school. 🙂

Love the bucket list! I always have good intentions for the summer, but before I know it, it’s time to go back to school.
My 3 boys hate shoe shopping…or any kind of shopping. So when we arrive at our summer vacation destination, we’ve made it a family tradition to go shoe shopping first! I don’t get any complaints and it goes very quickly! Ha!

My favorite back to school tradition is taking pictures of the kids in front of their school every year on the first day of school.
