Orange Juice is my all time favorite breakfast drink. Well, let’s be honest, I drink it any time of day. I make sure my kids get an 8-ounce glass of 100% Florida OJ before they leave for school. I know the school is teaming with germs. I know the Vitamin C they are getting in that little cup of juice is working hard to keep them healthy. Not only does it provide Vitamin C, it also provides other essential nutrients like potassium, folate and thiamin, and the whole family loves the taste! I’ve noticed that when my kids are drinking a glass of orange juice a day, they don’t get leg cramps at night.
This is why I’m partnering with Florida OJ to talk about the versatility of a staple ingredient, 100% Florida Orange Juice. Through this partnership, I’m sharing simple-to-prepare recipes and nutrition information about OJ and how it’s a great beverage choice for families and the perfect complement to whole fruit. An 8-ounce glass of 100% Florida OJ also counts as one cup of fruit, according to the USDA MyPlate recommendations. 100% Florida Orange juice is also free of fat, sodium, cholesterol and added sugar
We love to watch football games at our house, and we love gathering together to watch our favorite team. Game day is a great way to spend quality time with your family. Tailgate parties are also a fun way to spend quality time with your friends and family. Who doesn’t come over when you are serving delicious food? We love simple grilling recipes, like a citrus marinade that adds bright flavor to grilled chicken. Plus, we always have the main ingredient in our fridge – 100% Florida Orange Juice!
To get into the tailgating spirit, we recommend the following recipe that tastes great and highlights the versatility of 100% Florida OJ.
Orange Citrus Jerk Marinade for Chicken Kabobs- Recipe credit: Florida Department of Citrus
Ingredients:
- 1/2 C 100% Florida Orange Juice
- 2T lime juice
- 2T jerk seasoning
- 2t ginger, minced
- 4 small chicken breasts cut into kabob size
Combine all ingredients in bowl, mix thoroughly. Pour marinade over chicken, cover and refrigerate at least three hours or preferably overnight. Remove chicken from marinade and slide onto skewers. Preheat the grill to about 350-375 degrees. Grill for 12-15 minutes or until juices run clear and chicken is at 165 degrees. Turn a few times while cooking to get those beautiful grill marks on the chicken. If desired, sprinkle with more jerk seasoning while grilling. Serve with Citrus Lime Rice and steamed veggies.
Citrus Lime Rice
- 2 cups white medium grain rice
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 Tablespoon cup lemon juice
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 3 tablespoons butter
Combine all ingredients in a rice cooker, choose white rice and cook. Fluff with a fork and serve.
We really love lemon poke cake with lemon glaze as a treat on game day, but I decided I’d try to make the glaze with 100% Florida Orange Juice instead of lemon juice. And guess what? It was AMAZING! I love it so much better than lemon on lemon. It gives the cake a deeper citrus flavor. You and your family will love it! Recipe coming soon.
