Cutting the watermelon has always been my husbands job around our house because I’m just not as good at using large knifes as he is. He’s had lot’s of experience with large knifes as a precocious boy in scouts. But since my friend taught me how use this method to cut a watermelon, I’ve been doing the job ever since. We were at a Primary Party and it was my job to bring the watermelon. She was watching me try to cut it, without success, when she stepped in and asked me if I wanted to know how she cut a watermelon. I use this method every time! This method is less messy and you can cut the perfect sized watermelon cubes.
Start out by cutting the watermelon in half.
Then set one side cut side down on a large grooved cutting board.
Then start “peeling” the rind off the watermelon by slicing from the top to bottom, like peeling the skin off an apple.
Continue all around the watermelon then slice off the top.
Now slice the watermelon into 1-1.5″ slices.
Now take one of those slices and cube it.
Repeat with other slices and other side of the watermelon or save the other half by covering the cut part with plastic wrap and refrigerate.
You’re done! Such a cinch! I hope this comes in handy for all your summer parties!
