Preschool around here starts a few weeks after regular school which gives me just enough time to prepare for my class in semi-peace. I still have a 2 1/2 year old at home, but he has fun playing games and building towers with blocks as I prepare.
The preschool open house is a very important event for your little students. They can explore the classroom and the school feeling safe because their parent is with them. This is why I made this cute Open House Scavenger Hunt for my students:
This is how it works:
- When the students arrive, I greet them squatting so I can talk to them face to face. Not IN their face though cause that would be creepy 😉
- I tell them that they are going to go on a scavenger hunt with their Mommy/Daddy to find things that will help them in the classroom. Then I show them the 1/4 paper.
- I give them a crayon so they can “color” the things when they find them.
- I tell them that when they are done and have found everything on the paper they can come find me again and I’ll give them a treat/treasure.
This scavenger hunt is designed to show the kids the things I think are most important in the classroom.
I especially love the hand washing station for the bathroom so their parents can show them how to get the stepping stool, get soap, lather their hands and rinse and dry. Hopefully they will be able to do this by themselves when they are at school.
Sometimes while the kids are doing the scavenger hunt, I’ll grab the other parent and have them check the information paper to make sure I have everything correct.
This is what you get in the pack: (I realize that my blog background is white, so it doesn’t look like these are on a paper, but they are 🙂

This works like a charm. There are always those who stay extra long in the book nook and read books with their kids and do puzzles. You can even make “directions” for each station if you want. Like have a backpack for them to practice hanging up their backpack. Pull out their chair sit down, stand up and push the chair under the desk. Color a picture when they find the crayons. Learn a friends name. Put a date on the calendar… and so on.
I hope you find these printables useful. I’d love to hear if you used them. Leave a comment and tell me all about it.
Have a great school year!

Thanks for sharing this. I wanted to do a scavenger hunt on our sneak peak day and this one has good choices without anything in it that I do not have in my room.
