There are many different ideas out there, Conference packets and activity buckets, but this idea has been the one that worked the best for my family. Yes, I know, it’s a lot of sugar. But that’s okay every once and a while, right? This is also perfect because Conference comes right around Easter and Halloween, so there are all sorts of uncommon candy do use.
Here is the idea:
Put a different kind of candy in each bowl (how ever many different kids of candy you have will determine how many bowls you will need.) Have your kids cut out some strips of card stock paper about 2.5 inches wide by 5 inches long. Fold them in half lengthwise. Have your children think of some “Church” words and have them write them on one side of the paper. We used words like: Jesus Christ, Heavenly Father, Articles of Faith, Pray, Repent, Scriptures, Prophet, Book of Mormon, Temple…etc. Hang the papers over the bowls so the kids can see the words and place them on the coffee table or ottoman in the room where you will be listening to General Conference. We put a couple of words on one bowl for the more uncommon words so that candy would get chosen too 🙂
When Conference starts, have your children listen for the words. When they hear one of the words that is on the bowl, they get to choose ONE candy from that bowl and put it in a baggie, or eat it right away. It’s up to them! My kids have NEVER been so quiet during Conference. There was no yelling, no “Mom, I’m bored”, no falling asleep… it was great! Try it! You’ll have fun!
