Every Monday we try to have a family night. We call it Family Home Evening.
The kids know to not plan activities on Monday nights because it’s a special night.
My kids and I love to play games together and I want to add some more fun games to our collection.
I have kids that range in age from 18 to 7 so sometimes it’s hard to find a game that the older ones like and the youngest can still play and understand. Most of these games are good for all ages.
1. Skip.Bo: Get in the competitive spirit with the Skip-Bo card game where players skilfully build their own stacks of sequentially numbered, ascending cards.
2. Apples to Apples Disney Version: Red Apple cards come to life with pictures from Disney theme parks, movies and Disney Channel shows. The special card holder makes it easy to pass Green Apple cards around the table. Just Comes complete with 360 cards and a card holder. For 4 to 8 players.
3. Sequence: Sequence is a board and card game. The board shows all the cards (except for the Jacks) of two (2) standard 52-card decks, laid in a 10 x 10 pattern. The four corners are free spaces and count for all players equally. The players compete to create rows, columns or diagonals of 5 connected checkers placed on the cards that the player has laid down. Two-eyed Jacks are wild, while one-eyed Jacks allow an opponent’s checker to be removed. The game ends when someone has reached a specified number of connections. Sequence is a great game for kids! But Sequence is also the exciting strategy game for everyone who loves a challenge. Includes game board, Sequence playing cards and 135 playing chips.
4. Ticket to Ride: The Ticket To Ride Board Game is a cross-country train adventure that celebrates Fogg’s impetuous and lucrative gamble to travel “Around the World in 80 Days” by proposing a new wager. The stake is a $1 million prize in this winner-takes-all competition. The objective of this train board game is to see who can travel by rail to the most cities in North America in just seven days.
5. Scattergories: The Scattergories game is the fast-thinking game of words and categories. Players roll the letter die, flip the sand timer, and race against the clock to come up with answers to each category on the category list. Score points for writing down answers that no one else did. The more creative the answers, the more points scored!
6. Catan Family Edition: Begin a quest to settle the island of Catan. Guide your brave settlers to victory by using clever trading and shrewd development. Use resources-grain, wool, ore, lumber, and brick-to build roads, settlements, cities and key cultural milestones. Get resources by rolling the dice or by trading with other players. But beware. You never know when someone will block your way or if the robber will strike and steal your hard-earned goods. Are you the best trader, builder, or settler? Will you master Catan?
7. Qwixx: Qwixx is a quick-playing dice game in which everyone participates, no matter whose turn it is. Each player has a scoresheet with the numbers 2-12 in rows of red and yellow and the numbers 12-2 in rows of green and blue. To score points you want to mark off as many numbers as possible, but you can mark off a number only if it’s to the right of all marked-off numbers in the same row.
8. Cover Your Assets: We love Grandpa Beck’s Games. We have all four. But this game is fast-paced, competitive, and a more than a little addictive. Will it teach you to be wise with your financial decisions in life, or how to be a savvy investor? Absolutely not. Will it cause bouts of laughter, good-humored competition, and fun-filled gatherings? We certainly hope so.
9. Phase 10: Phase 10 is a Rummy-Type Card Game with challenging and exciting twists! The object of the game is to complete each of the ten specific phases. If you complete the phase you advance to the next phase, but if you do not you must try again.
10. King of Tokyo: King of Tokyo is a game for 2 to 6 players where you play as mutant monsters, rampaging robots, or even abominable aliens battling in a fun, chaotic atmosphere. Roll the dice and choose your strategy: Will you attack your enemies? Heal your wounds? Improve your Monster? Stomp your path to victory!
11. Deer in the Headlights: In Deer in the Headlights, be the first player to discard all your cards and win the round. A “Running Deer” can help you discard cards. Rolling a “Car” can also help you by passing off cards to your friends. But watch out for those Deer in the Headlights! They can cut down on your discards, force you to lose a turn, or freeze you out of the game until you can roll your way back in. Easy to learn and play for the entire family.
12. Sushi Go Party: Sushi Go Party!, an expanded version of the best-selling card game Sushi Go!, is a party platter of mega maki, super sashimi, and endless edamame. You still earn points by picking winning sushi combos, but now you can customise each game by choosing à la carte from a menu of more than twenty delectable dishes. What’s more, up to eight players can join in on the sushi-feast. Let the good times roll!
13. Telestrations: This game is one that my family owns and it’s a BLAST! Each player starts with their own erasable sketch book, marker and word card. A roll of the die determines each player’s secret word. The timer gets turned and everyone draws their word. After 60 seconds, everyone passes their book to the player on their left. Then each player takes a few seconds to guess in words(s) what they see, and passes again. The timer is turned and everyone draws the guess. This continues until everyone’s sketch book passes by every player and returns back to its original owner, where it’s time for The Big Reveal. Everyone shares their book and the hilarious miscommunication is revealed. Just like the game of “telephone,” the outcomes are unpredictable and the laughter is contagious!
14. Game of Things: This game is for 14+. Read funny topics, like ‘THINGS… you shouldn’t do when you’re naked’ and then everyone writes responses, like ‘Fly a kite’, ‘Jumping jacks’, etc. Now guess who said what.
15. 7 Wonders: You are the leader of one of the 7 great cities of the Ancient World. Gather resources, develop commercial routes, and affirm your military supremacy. Build your city and erect an architectural wonder which will transcend future times. 7 Wonders lasts three ages.
16. Munchkin: Go down in the dungeon. Kill everything you meet. Backstab your friends and steal their stuff. Grab the treasure and run. Admit it. You love it. This award-winning card game captures the essence of the dungeon experience . . . with none of that stupid roleplaying stuff. And it’s illustrated by John Kovalic! Fast-playing and silly, Munchkin can reduce any roleplaying group to hysteria. And, while they’re laughing, you can steal their stuff.
17. Aggravation: Aggravation is a board game for up to six players. Originally marketed in 1962 as a game for children, families soon realized that everyone enjoyed playing the fast paced, roll and move marble game. The object is to be the first player to have all four plastic marble playing pieces reach the player’s home section of the board. The game’s name comes from capturing an opponent’s piece by landing on its space, which is known as “aggravating”.
18. Mad Gab: In this funny, fast-paced game, teams work to decipher groups of unrelated words into real phrases before time runs out. For example, when you quickly say ‘Canoe Key Pace He Grit,’ it sounds like ‘Can you keep secret?’ Teams have two minutes to sound out three puzzles, and the quicker you guess, the more you score. The first team to reach 30 points wins the game. Hilarious fun for two or more players, Mad Gab is the perfect game to share with family and friends.
19. Qwirkle: Featuring a massive amount of in-game choices, including three tiles each of thirty-six possible color-symbol combinations, Qwirkle is the perfect game to hone player’s tactical maneuvers, strategical planning, and forward thinking. The rules of the game are basic: simply build lines by matching tiles based on either color or shape, and score points for doing so. The ability to build complex combinations will keep children interested and engaged, and challenge them mentally. Qwirkle is playable from early ages up, allowing young children and older individuals alike to develop and hone their spacial recognition, planning, and problem solving skills. Great for family game night!
20. Headbanz: Play Hedbanz, the quick question game of “What am I?” Ask “yes” or “no” questions to figure out if the cartoon on your head is an animal, food or man-made object. Be the first player to guess what you are and win! Hedbanz – the game where everybody knows by you!
21. Spot it!: Test your observational skills and hone your reflexes with the award-winning gameplay of Spot It!, a game of lightning-fast choices for a group of two to eight players. With dozens of awards and possible versions, Spot It! has become a global phenomenon.
22. Watch Ya Mouth: 3-10 Players wear cheek retractors and speak out phrases while teammates guess what they are saying. Includes 143 Family-Safe Phrases. Great for all ages including kids who are 8+
23. Reverse Charades: Charades is a classic family favorite! We get it. We don’t want you to throw away your family traditions, which is why we are taking a game you love and putting it into reverse! Instead of one person acting out a clue for a team to guess, a team acts out clues for one person to guess. Now you can experience a familiar game in a new, exciting way!
24. Suspend: This award-winning ‘teetering, wobbling, shifting, tipping, unbalanced, balance game’ is a must-have for family game night! Take turns hanging the notched, rubber-tipped wire pieces from the tabletop stand. With each added piece, the balance shifts and the sculpture transforms. But watch out! One wrong move could send it all crashing down! Suited for 1-4 players, this game is guaranteed to appeal to kids and grownups alike!
25. Face Off: The funniest, wackiest game you’ll ever play! Use zany trading signals–from crazy faces to wild animal sounds, and more!–to communicate with fellow players. Trade cards with anyone signaling the same sign back to you. There’s no taking turns, so the action is frantic! Be first to collect 9 matching cards, and you’ll win the hand… plus you’ll get to choose the wild signal set for the next round of play! Using the facial trading set? Then you’ll… Signal “1” by sticking out your tongue! Signal “2” by bulging open both eyes! Signal “3” by opening eyes and mouth wide!
