I needed it to be really easy though since I had been cooking all day long. So I came up with this quick and easy Semi-Homemade Tres Leche Cake recipe. I’ll share it with you too, K? Ok?

I made this cake for my nephews birthday and it was the best cake I ever made. P.s. I used plain greek yogurt instead of sour cream and it still came out great 🙂 I also screwed up by adding the sugar and vanilla to the whipping cream prior to whisking. I set my hand mixer to the highest setting and beat it for a good 5 minutes, maybe longer and it finally started to resemble whipped cream. Needless to say I was relieved!

Hi Ashley, sour cream makes the cake really moist and gives it a really nice texture.

Tres Leches is one of my all time favorite desserts. I make mine from scratch but I would be very interested in trying this out (would make like easier)

A couple of tips / changes I would make. use heavy cream instead of the half and half (personal preference) the recipe that I use calls for the smae amount of the three milks I had to double it because it was too dry otherwise.

The last thing I would do is as soon as the cake comes out of the oven I poke the holes with a fork and pour the three milk sauce over the cake right away.. this just helped the cake soak up the milk easier. it may also be why I needed to double the the milks (not sure about that tho)

Oh last thing I like to do is sliced fruit on top. I’ve done both strawberries and blueberries.

Hi, I was wondering do you just dump the yellow cake mix in or do u have to add the ingredients requested in the box for the Yellow cake?

You use the cake mix with the ingredients listed. Do not use the ingredients on the box 🙂

This looks so good! Do you think it would work with a gluten free cake mix, like Betty Crocker’s?

HI Nithya, I don’t think it would work as a stacked cake. Maybe in a trifle bowl like this one: http://amzn.to/2jy1EJ3 (affiliate link)

This was very good but the ingredients didn’t lid the size of the pudding. We used a large size. I thought everything was too sweet. My kids and grandkids loved it though Thanks for posting.

Hi Lisa, I’ve never done that but I would assume you could use a chocolate cake mix instead of a white or yellow one!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve made this recipe over the years, but every time I’ve made it, it’s been a hit! Even professed “not a dessert person”s will happily take seconds. Thank you do much for such a delicious dessert!
